Class Fitzwilliam Page!
Welcome to the Class Fitzwilliam Page! On this page you will find regular updates and photographs of the activities and learning that we have been undertaking throughout the year.
This term (Autumn 1) our topic is........
Henri Rousseau - One of the world's best artists?
During this topic we will be exploring different paintings by Henri. He created lots of paintings with a jungle theme with animals even though he never left his home country of France. He taught himself to paint and didn't become a painter until he turned 49 years old. We will be exploring the colours he used in his works and the different types of paintings he created including portraits and landscapes. We will produce our own portraits and jungle animal masks. Concluding with a picture of a jungle theme with plants and animals.
This year our PE lesson will be held on a Tuesday afternoon. Please can you ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit. They will wear their kit all day and go home in it. This is so we can minimise risks in the current COVID pandemic. I would recommend checking the weather the day before to ensure they are wearing appropriate kit, especially now the weather is getting much cooler.
The children will participate in an outdoor PE lesson unless the weather becomes too extreme.
Required PE kit:
A blue team Elsecar PE t-shirt;
A pair of black shorts, PE skirt or skort;
A pair of tracksuit bottoms and a top for outdoor use;
A pair of trainers suitable for the playground and field.
Please can you ensure you are reading regularly with your child. We ideally would like them to be reading every day. This can be a mixture of reading independently or with an adult. We ask that you write a comment in their reading record about how you feel they have read.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are asking that pupils try to change their books on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday because we need to quarantine books brought in from home for 48 hours.
If your child reads any other books, kindle, magazines, newspapers etc. this should be written in their reading records also.
Reading for pleasure!
We greatly encourage reading for pleasure. There are so many wonderful children's books to read. Below we have added a downloadable reading checklist for year 2. This checklist provides you with the top fifty recommended reads for this year group. It's a wonderful way to encourage your child to read a wider range of literature. Many of these books are available from libraries including Barnsley's online library where there is a wide selection of e-books to download for free. Make sure you tweet the class page when you have read one to tick off your list!
Times Table Rock Stars!
Please encourage your child to play on Rock stars, it really does make a difference! Ideally 10 minutes a day but whenever they have a spare 5 minutes. Their log in details can be found in their reading records. More information about Rock stars can be found on the school website under the tab Times Table Rock Stars.
There is also a Rock stars Twitter page which is @ElsecarTT
